Venus in Furs with Lola Colt - An Interview

***** Interview with Lola Colt *****

Q. When did Lola Colt start, tell us about the history...
Lola Colt began life as a song writing/music project by founding members Gun and Matt L. After a year or more spent defining the sound and creating demos a band was formed and we played our first gig, supporting LA legends The Warlocks. That was two years ago.

Q: Who are your influences?
Anyone that tries to express imagination and feeling through music/sound. From the Rock n Roll pioneers of the 50's like Link Wray, through bands in the 60's… Jefferson Airplane, The Velvet Underground etc. The Jesus & Mary Chain in the 80's… there are bands of note in all eras (and genres). Bands today that are keeping the tradition alive include The Black Angels and The Brian Jonestown Massacre - both of whom are able to tap into something deeper to create music that's, in a way, timeless.

Q. Make a list of 5 albums of all time…
That's impossible, it'll never be the same twice, but here are some of the staples…
Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow
The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico
The Jesus & Mary Chain - Psychcandy
Link Wray - Jack The Ripper
Pink Floyd - Meddle

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Like we're stoking up some mighty fire in the belly of a freight train that non of us are really in control of.

Q. How do you describe Lola Colt sounds?
We prefer to leave that to the listener.

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs and when the album comes?
Everything to date has been recorded and produced by the band. We're considering releasing an album later this year.

Q. Which new bands do you recommended?
The whole psych scene is really happening right now - bands like Cult of Dom Keller, Temples, Dark Bells... Also, we'd love to hear more from the Icelandic Dead Skeletons. Newcomers to this scene should definitely pick up the European Reverb Conspiracy compilation which came out in November, and check out the latest Austen Psych Fest line-up what a taste of what's going on in the States.

Q: Which bands you love to made a cover version?
I don't think we'll ever do a cover, but if we did, Venus In Furs by the Velvet Underground would be perfect.

Q: What's the plans for future....
To keep challenging ourselves, creating music that we love and sharing it with those who want to be part of it.

Q: Any parting words?
Thank you for the Blog that Celebrates Itself!
