In Heaven with Pines - An Interview

***** Interview with Pines *****

Q. When did Pines start? Tell us about the history...
The three of us have been playing music together since middle school—we met in first grade—so at this point our relationship with making music and performing is pretty unspoken. We played a handful of shows in high school, at a local music shop in our small town, but Pines in its current state didn’t really begin to take shape until 2013, when we were all in college, and started playing shows in Flint. Since then we have met so many amazing people who have supported us and helped us to achieve more than we ever expected. We released a 7” at the end of May through Flesh and Bone Records, and we just finished recording our first LP, which we’re hoping to release early 2017.

Q. How do you feel playing live?
Fullfilled

Q. How do you describe Pines’ sounds?
Heavy, pretty, slow, writhing

Q: Tell us about the process of recording the songs?
For In Heaven//Your Lull, we recorded with our friends Nate Leritz and Nick Ranger at The Woods Recording Studio in Port Huron. The songs were done completely live, with some guitar and vocal overdubs to make everything sound even more massive. The studio itself is an annex to a massive home that sits in a forest, and the room’s many windows made it feel like we were playing in the middle of the woods. In the best way, it felt completely isolating. I can’t think of a more ideal environment to make a record.

Q. Which new bands do you recommend?
Lume, Big Brave, The Fever Haze, Protomartyr, Ratboys, Mover Shaker, Braidedveins, Whitney

Q: Which band would you love to make a cover version of?
Our alter ego project is a bar band that probably plays a lot of Kid Rock

Q: What are your plans for the future?
Release our full length and tour more

Q: Any parting words?
Love and gratitude toward our friends in Lume, and Dylan Hulett of Flesh and Bone Records. Don’t sleep on them.
